unlocking the iphone?

ok im thinking of unlocking my iphone. but not to switch from at&t but so i can get ringtones and stuff like that but im having second thoughts about it can you guys give me a run thru of what unlocking my phone dose to it and if it will mess up my phone

it basically means that u can put any carriers sim once ur phones unlocked And yes there are risks involved

Yeah it'll mess up your phone. It will void the warranty and you won't benefit from apple software updates.
